Khonoma is a beautiful little village in southern Nagaland in India's north east. It is a strong hold of Angami tribe, one of the sixteen major tribes of the land. Khonoma was the first village to bear the brunt of the British attack in late 19th century. Later Nagas didn't want to be a part of India when British left and an armed resistance followed. A Z Phizo, the leader of the Naga resistance was from this village. Nagaland witnessed much violence over the next 20 years. Today Its a wounded society. Nagas are misunderstood and not understood by the Indian mainstream. They inherently wonderfully graceful and creative people.
